January / February - 2014

Jan/FebWith the New Year comes the January/February issue of HM. This installment drifts slightly from the prevailing content our readers may be accustomed to and hones in on and celebrates local businesses and their successes. We have coalesced the customary content with an entire section dedicated to progress and advancements in Washington County. Bookended by stories on United Way’s “Day of Caring,” and the ways and means to maintain your mental acuity this winter, the Growth section checks in on local businesses that are in the earliest stages as well as those with production and commerce limited only by the Earth’s gravitational pull. We start off with a look at Startup Maryland’s “Pitch Across Maryland” initiative, which traveled statewide seeking entrepreneurs with the hutzpah to hawk their business ventures to a group of judges — with the hope of pulling down a $25,000 prize to pump into their company. We also look at private investment in the area, networking options, those who are bolstering up the local workforce with education opportunities, and the list goes on. This issue has extra (extra), so read all about it!
