Born in Baltimore and raised in Richmond during the Centennial years, Allan Tischler has written about 20 op-ed and periodical articles, along with one book about the evacuation of the Federal cavalry from Harpers Ferry during the Antietam Campaign. He was heavily involved in early efforts to conserve lower-Shenandoah Valley Civil War sites, monuments and markers, and served in the ranks of the Confederate and Federal re-enacting armies for thirty years.
