Born in Baltimore and raised in Richmond during the Centennial years, Allan Tischler has written about 20 op-ed and periodical articles, along with one book about the evacuation of the Federal cavalry from Harpers Ferry during the Antietam Campaign. He was heavily involved in early efforts to conserve lower-Shenandoah Valley Civil War sites, monuments and markers, and served in the ranks of the Confederate and Federal re-enacting armies for thirty years.

Due to the influence of his last commanding officer, Brian Pohanka of Co. A 5th New York Duryee Zouaves, he was able to be cast as historical extra in seven television productions and feature films, and notably in the last category, Sommersby, Gods and Generals, and Glory.

Allan assisted in the 2015 restoration of the Winchester National Cemetery and is currently researching and writing a book about the 85 Union soldiers who received the Medal of Honor for their service during the Shenandoah Valley Campaigns 1862-1865.

Allan will be will examining the combined mounted movements of Averill's 2nd Cavalry Division and Merritt's 1st Cavalry Division leading up to their final assault in the Third Battle of Winchester Sept. 19, 1864 during his talk on May 10 from 7–8 p.m. at Camp Hill Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

A family-style meal will be served at 7:00 PM prior to the program.
