Join the Contemporary School for the Arts & Gallery and the Washington County
Historical Society in celebrating local heritage by welcoming a series of
speakers who will talk about various elements of history in Washington
County.

In December, the Historical Society is hosting wonderful local author and historian Stephen
Bockmiller, who will be speaking on the fascinating 1864 Ransoming of
Hagerstown. After the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate troops marched
through the area, capturing local towns and holding them for ransom. In July
of 1864, the city of Hagerstown was one such town. What happened to the brave
citizens of Hagerstown? How did they survive? Find out for yourself during
Stephen Bockmiller's exciting historical lecture!
