Water Garden Therapy
Soothing Sounds Help Melt Stress Away.

• • •

It’s no mystery that the sound and movement of water can relieve stress. And in today’s world, that little known fact can come in quite handy. While the complete effects of stress are still being studied, research has found that heart disease, cancer and abdominal problems are just a few of the negative results of stress. A 2006 study conducted by Mental Health America (MHA) found that people are more likely to drink, smoke or use drugs to relieve stress as well as take prescribed medications.

So what can you do to help alleviate some of this stress? One idea is to add a water element to your home. “Water gardens are so soothing and relaxing,” says Margaret Thomas Koogle, owner of Lilypons Water Gardens. “When people are stressed, this offers a nice respite, a place to go with your coffee or wine and relax. We have some doctors and therapists who have added water gardens for their patients. They really are appealing to so many people for so many reasons.”

Understanding the healing benefits of water gardens is Joyce Griggens, a breast cancer survivor who used her water garden throughout her battle against the disease. Today, Lilypons offers a beautiful Pink Ribbon Water Lily created by a gentleman in Thailand and named by Joyce. Sold exclusively through Lilypons, for every one sold, $10 goes to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
